For most online marketers, the opt-in page (commonly referred to as a squeeze-page) serves as the entry point of their marketing funnel for interested prospects. And, while most marketers have been taught the concept of offering some type of “lead magnet” as an ethical bribe to generate the opt-in, far too many entrepreneurs miss the mark with what truly functions as the opt-in page’s bribe.

Your opt-in page is a sales page. It may not have the objective of selling a product or service… or asking for money… but it is attempting to generate a transaction.

In this case, the transaction is an exchange of value and benefit for your prospects name and email address. And, the job of your opt-in page is to “sell” your prospects on the value they’re going to get in return for entering their information into the little opt-in box.

This requires a persuasive demonstration of benefit the prospect stands to gain after completing the “opt-in page transaction” (i.e. submitting their information into your opt-in form).

This persuasive demonstration of benefit is accomplished by focusing on the big promise of your lead magnet. In other words, you clearly show prospects they are going to get value in return for submitting their information and consuming your lead magnet by showing them how their problem, situation, circumstance, etc., will be improved for the better by the information they’re about to get access to.

Why Your Squeeze Page Is Really A Sales Page

The lead magnet (i.e. series of videos, PDF, webinar, etc.) is not the persuasive element – the real bribe. The real bribe is the “change in circumstance” the prospect believes they will experience after requesting and consuming your lead magnet. And, the value of your lead magnet is determined and derived (in the prospects eyes) solely by how compelling, beneficial, and believable the big promise of your lead magnet is.
